St. Louis HomeUpdating a St. Louis home before selling is a good way to add appeal to an older house. In today’s fast-paced market, there are many design trends that quickly become outdated.  Even if the St. Louis home was recently updated, it may need a bit of sprucing up to appeal to buyers.

With that in mind, St. Louis home sellers should consider trying out these five new trends to help a home sell quickly.  And if your house does not have any of these updates, it is time for a change.

What to Change

Kitchens are always at the top of a St. Louis buyer’s list. This means that having an outdated kitchen is very unappealing to potential buyers.  A huge change that real estate pros are seeing is a demand for more color in the kitchen.

The old trend was to have a pure white kitchen but St. Louis homeowners have quickly learned this only shows dirt and grime. In today’s market, a popular color for the kitchen is a dark blue.  Homes that have blue kitchens are actually selling for more compared to other colors, especially white.

Many St. Louis homeowners also recently incorporated a bar cart into the dining room.  These carts add a bit of interest to the room but they are not very functional. Instead, consider using this cart as a coffee cart.  More homes drink coffee or serve coffee when guests are over. It is still aesthetically appealing but it serves a great function.

Prints

Prints are in; floral prints to be exact.  This type of print allows a St. Louis homeowner to add striking colors to a room.  It can a great touch to add an accent piece like a chair with a floral print. Even adding pillows, curtains, or blankets with this print will help the room feel more vibrant.

Focus on the Floor

This technique is especially good for homes with smaller rooms.  St. Louis home sellers can consider installing a new floor covering that has a unique pattern.  The pattern does not matter so long as it is bold and flows with the rest of the room. By making the floor a focal point in the room there does not need to be as many decorative pieces, which can minimize clutter.

Kitchen Cabinets

While other areas of the St. Louis home are becoming bolder, kitchen cabinets are doing better with lighter colors.  These light cabinets help the room feel more open and inviting. Any light wood to medium wood looks wonderful with a dark colored floor.

The preferred design of the cabinets is changing as well.  Having no handles and a flat exterior is more appealing. While the doors are flat that does not mean they are just a solid piece.  Many are being designed to have added openings for items to peak out.

Feel the Warmth

There is a lot of color that is being added to rooms that previously were more muted.  A good way to balance this is to add warm colors in the form of décor pieces. Some are choosing to put a warm color on their floor in rooms that have bold walls.  Or vice versa – if the floor is bold, a warm wall will help balance the room.

Appliance Overhaul

Kitchens are usually filled with appliances that are silver and have a finish that shines.  However, the new trend is a matte finish. This finish makes a room less sterile and more welcoming.

There is no need to rush out and purchase new appliances.  There are ways to update old appliances to give them the appearance of being matte.

To sell a St. Louis house quickly and get a good price it is necessary to make updates to the property.  These updates are likely to become outdated within a year or two so it is essential to sell the St. Louis home while they are still popular.  Trends for designing a St. Louis home change quickly which means that homeowners must be on their toes to show an appealing home to St. Louis buyers.
